Tuesday, October 16, was not only my grand-daughter Meegan's birthday, but it was also the birthday of Tanya's sister-in-law Tina. We were invited to Tina's party and we had a lovely time.

In true Georgian style, the table was laden with food for the guests. |
Shortly after we arrived at Tina and Givi's lovely apartment, the electricity went off, and we were left in the dark. I thought, well, this is OK--we'll party by candlelight. However, everybody assured me that this apartment had a generator, and that we'd be back to normal in no time--except for the fact that Givi was the only person who knew how to start the generator, and Givi had just left to take their handsome German Shepherd, named Jura, for a walk. And they were both stuck in the elevator.
Everyone rushed out into the hallway to help them. The shouts of people offering advice and Jura's loud barking were punctuated by flashlight beams casting grotesque shadows on dark stairs. Finally someone brought a small ladder which was handed down to Givi, who climbed out with no problem. Getting Jura to go up the ladder was another matter entirely, but at last he made it, too. The generator was turned on at last and was still running when we left the party near midnight. |
