Visual and Performing Arts Department are:
Music:
Symphonic Band I, Mrs. Sleeper
Students enrolled in this course will learn to perform a variety of literature from popular songs to concert band classics. Each student will become more proficient on their instruments by playing in this ensemble. Previous experience on woodwind, brass, or percussion is mandatory. Requirements for this course include attendance at all performances.
Guitar, Mrs. Sleeper
This course is designed for students who want to learn how to care for the guitar, how to read music, and how to play chords. Students are encouraged to supply their own guitar; however, guitars are available for those who do not have access to one.

Music Theory, Mrs. Sleeper
Music Theory is designed for students who wish to understand the basic building blocks of music and how they co-exist to form a cohesive work of art. Students will examine the foundational and structural elements of music in depth. The class culminates with students composing their own pieces of music. The ability to read music is essential to this course.

Art:
Introduction to Drawing, Mrs. Myers
This is a beginning studio course offered to introduce students to the elements and principles of design. Students will develop core skills and techniques in order to strengthen their representational skills in pencil. While learning about ideas such as value, perspective, and proportion, students will also be exposed to art and artists throughout history. Art criticism and critique will be practiced, and a portfolio of works will be completed.

Introduction to Ceramics, Mrs. Chan
This is a studio course offered to introduce students to the basic hand-building techniques of clay. Pinch, Slab & Coil techniques will be used to complete a variety of clay pieces. All pieces will be bisque fired, and students will then learn how to glaze their pieces. After glazing, the pieces will be fired again to produce finished ceramic works of art. Some assignments in this course include functional ceramic pieces, and some will consist of more visually artistic pieces.

Intermediate Ceramics, Mrs. Myers
This is a studio course aimed towards beginning ceramics students who want to bring themselves to the intermediate level. Students will expand upon their knowledge learned in Introduction to ceramics, exploring in depth more advanced artistic problems in hand-building, and learning how to use the wheel. Individual work, a wider variety of artistic techniques, and more constructive critiques will be emphasized.

Introduction to Sculpture, Mrs. Myers
This is a beginning studio course offered to introduce students to a variety of basic sculpture techniques. Students will develop core skills and techniques in order to strengthen their three- dimensional modeling skills. While learning about ideas such as space, balance and proportion, students will also be exposed to art and artists throughout history. Art criticism and critique will be practiced, and a portfolio of works will be completed.

2D Design, Mrs. Chan
This is a studio course aimed towards beginning art students who want to bring themselves to the intermediate level. Students will expand upon knowledge learned in Introduction & Intermediate Drawing exploring in depth more advanced artistic problems in design, drawing, and collage. Individual work, a wider variety of artistic techniques, and more constructive critiques will be emphasized. Students will also complete an in depth study of an artist from history.

Figure Studies, Mrs. Chan
This is an advanced studio course geared towards rigorously studying the figure. Students will expand their communication and understanding of themselves and the world around them by completing more advanced art pieces focused on the human form. Experimentation within ideas and different media will be expected. Students in this course will vigorously study art history, criticism, and again produce an elite portfolio of finished works.

AP Art Studio Art - Drawing, 2D Design & 3D Design, Mrs. Chan
The Advanced Placement Program provides art students with the opportunity to pursue college-level studio art studies while still in secondary school. Students will assemble a drawing, two dimensional design, or three dimensional design portfolio to be submitted to the Educational Testing Service for evaluation and possible college credit. The ETS uses a rubric scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high) for evaluation, and any student receiving a 3 or better will receive 3 college credits. Students in this course will work independently and be responsible for their own portfolio selection and development. Students will take their own slides and compile the required portfolio with purchased testing materials upon completion of course work. Students should be able to fund a $75 - $100 fee for the Advanced Placement portfolio
packet. Fee waivers are available for free and reduced lunch students. Slides are an additional cost.
